Both the elephants and panthers show why Sabino fell in love with Opalescence-light released the fiery colourings hidden by the opacity of the icy surface. The panthers were a peculiarly French Deco theme, exploited by artists from Cartier to Sabino. They seemed to embody the mystique of colonoial Africa, with the arrogance of the predator, and the style of ancient Egyptian animal Gods.
